WHO WON?
1st prize ‘Albert Michiels’: Philippe Lemm Trio

In 2011 the trio met at The Manhattan School of Music in New York. Improvising and communication is the objective rather than through-composed music. From are stretched melodies extended and every song get a fresh approach each concerts. Playing on the edge is their motto.
 
2nd prize: Soso Lakatos Quartet

Soso Lakatos Quartet is consisting out of four young and upcoming jazz musicians from Hungary, United States and the Netherlands. Established in 2012 when they met during their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
Their roots are based on bebop and they love to play standards and traditional jazz music. As well the quartet presents original compositions of the band leader. Soso’s pieces are strongly connected to the modern jazz combined with elements of gypsy music, classical and pop music. The conception of their music is to melt together all the backgrounds where the band members are coming from while they still play be-bop and modern jazz.
 
3rd prize: Ylativ Algo Quintet

This band is a German-Russian quintet based in Leipzig.
The sound represents its creators: a mix of ethnic backgrounds and influences of their folk music along with various aesthetics and styles such as classical, pop, rock, electronic music, mainstream jazz and free jazz.
Ylativ Algo Quintet won the Getxo Jazz 2014 contest and for that they got a wildcard for the B-Jazz 2015 finals.
 
4th prize: SCHNTZL
SCHNTZL
The winner of STORM! Contest 2015 has a minimal line up but a maximal sound!
Hendrik Lasure (piano) and Casper Van De Velde (drums) create an authentic sound that surprises and they do it in an inspired and open-minded way. Instinctive, playful and exciting!
 
5th prize: Attila Gyárfás Trio

The Attila Gyárfás Trio is an international group that was formed in the fall of 2013, consisting of Márton Fenyvesi on guitar, Marco Zenini on double bass and Attila Gyárfás on drums. The band is performing originals by Gyárfás. The compositions are partly influenced by the music of the early 20th century composers, and also drawing on the avant-garde jazz of the 1960’s. The trio has toured in Hungary and in the Netherlands and they are currently working on their first album, which they are planning to release later this year.
 
6th prize: RUIS
RUIS (c) RUIS
RUIS is guitar trio with a vision. The young trio takes simplicity as a starting point and sound making as a main motive. This leads them to dreamy soundscapes, beautiful melodies and also controlled chaos. RUIS is ; Artan Buleshkaj ( guitar ), Nils Vermeulen ( double bass ) en Simon Raman ( drums ). They met at the Conservatory of Ghent and played already together in lots of projects.
