contest rules B-Jazz 2017

These are the contest rules for the 2017 edition of B-Jazz International Contest.

  1. B-Jazz International Contest (referred to as ‘B-Jazz’) is a competition for young, aspiring jazz musicians, with the aim to discover, promote and encourage them. B-Jazz International Contest 2017 is open to participants of all nationalities born on or after the 1st of January 1987. Exception: one bandmember can be not older than 40 years (born on or after the 1st of January 1977).
  2. B-Jazz is organised by Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz vzw (a non-profit organization). In this document Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz vzw is referred to as ‘organizer’.
  3. The competition aims for jazz in all its genres and styles. Participants retain full freedom of artistic expression, subject to the provisions of article 20 of this document. Participants provide (via www.bjazzcontest.be only) before the 31st of October 2016 to the organizer a YouTube video of maximum 5 minutes of their own work, be it live or recorded.
  4. The submitted recordings have to be original recordings of the participants
  5. Submitting recordings is done via the ‘apply’ section on www.B-Jazz.be. Links to recordings can be uploaded via a separate website (www.bjazzcontest.be).
  6. The deadline for entries is the 31st of October 2016. Recordings that are submitted too late are not eligible for assessment and cannot be granted for a prize. The organizer will confirm the admissibility of the submission by stating the artist’s name on the website www.B-Jazz.be.
  7. Participation in the contest implies the unconditional acceptance of these rules. All issues that are not addressed explicitly in these rules shall be settled sovereignly by the organizer.
  8. The formation of the jury for the qualifications and the jury for the final can be found in the ‘jury’ section on www.B-Jazz.be. The organizer reserves the right to change this formation. The decision of the jurors is final.
  9. The jurors give their word to complete confidentiality of the deliberations and voting. There will be no oral or written communication about the deliberations and voting.
  10. Based on the proposal of the jury and the public (via a voting system), the organizer choses ultimately two participants as a finalist for B-Jazz 2017. 2 reserve finalists are also indicated.
  11. The organizer provides a ‘wildcard’ to participate in the finals to the winner of Getxo Jazz Festival 2016, a band chosen by Saint Louis College of Music, a band chosen by Amersfoort Jazz Festival and the winner of Jong Jazztalent Gent.
